About Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines was founded in 1967 with the mission to provide all air travelers with low fares, a convenient schedule and excellent customer service. In 1971, after several years of legal battles, Southwest Airlines finally began service with four planes and flights to Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. What began as a small Texas airline has grown to become one of the largest airlines in America.

Today, Southwest Airlines flies more than 65 million passengers a year, on over 450 planes, to 62 great cities, all across the country, and more than 3,000 times a day. Yearend results for 2005 marked Southwest's 33rd consecutive year of profitability and the airline presently employs more than 31,000 individuals across the nation. Southwest is the United States' most successful low-fare, high-frequency, point-to-point carrier.
